Dear Friends and Visitors,
Have you ever asked yourself the question, why does the Church exist? Why are there all the activities that are carried out within a church community?
The Church is God's great idea. It is a place where people can discover a new life living a new way. In the early church there was an atmosphere which included a sense of awe, togetherness, unselfishness, unity, power, community, and strong sense of mission. This is what allowed the early Church to grow and to spread - in a world that espoused self-centred values, the Church lived a different type of life - a life that was based on 'agape', which is the Greek word for self-sacrificial love, the sort of love shown by Jesus Christ to all people. Our calling today is essentially the same: |
-
to worship God - what we do faithfully Sunday by Sunday is the absolute bedrock of what we are about - giving God honour in our lives through our worship and discipleship
-
to encourage those in the Church to use the gifts that God has give them to build the Church up. We need each other - unity, encouragement and involvement lie at the heart of our life together
-
to reach out to those on the outside through our love and service and draw them into the fellowship of the Church, that they too may have that sense of belonging to God, and contribute the gifts that they have to build up his Kingdom
This website gives a brief insight into the history, the community and the activities of Holy Trinity Portrush. The care of the Parish involves more than just the Clergy. Many people give of their time, talents and finances freely and have always done so in Holy Trinity. This allows the ministry and the mission of the church to be furthered in the Parish. New faces are always welcome, to worship with us and to join in parish activities.
I welcome you to this website and hope that you find it both useful and inviting. Hopefully we can also welcome you to the Church itself.
Rev. Peter McDowell.
